Roland-Garros: Nadal Reaches 14th Final as Zverev Suffers Gruesome Injury

Zverev Retires Due to Horrific Ankle Injury

Rafael Nadal has reached the final of Roland-Garros for a record 14th time after third seed Alexander Zverev suffered a horrific-looking ankle injury during their semifinal match. Nadal was leading 7-6, 6-6 when Zverev twisted his ankle while attempting to change direction. The German player collapsed to the ground in agony and was unable to continue. He was helped off the court in a wheelchair.

Emotional Scene as Nadal Consoles Opponent

In an emotional scene, Nadal went over to Zverev and offered his support. The Spaniard appeared visibly shaken by the incident. "It's very tough for him," Nadal said. "He's a very good friend of mine, and I know how much this tournament means to him. I just wish him a speedy recovery." Zverev later revealed on social media that he had torn three ligaments in his ankle. The injury is expected to keep him out of action for several months.
