Ruud Reaches French Open Final
Norwegian Casper Ruud beats Alexander Zverev to reach the French Open final
Ruud will face Nadal in the final on Sunday.
Casper Ruud has reached his first Grand Slam final after beating Alexander Zverev in the semi-finals of the French Open. The Norwegian won 6-3 6-4 6-0 in two hours and 55 minutes.
Ruud, who is seeded eighth, dominated the match from the start and broke Zverev's serve four times in the first two sets. The German, who was playing in his first Grand Slam semi-final, could not match Ruud's consistency and was eventually overwhelmed by the Norwegian's power and accuracy.
Ruud will now face Rafael Nadal in the final on Sunday. Nadal is seeking a record-extending 14th French Open title and will be a heavy favorite against Ruud. However, the Norwegian has already shown that he can beat the best players in the world and will be hoping to cause an upset in the final.
The victory over Zverev was Ruud's third top-10 win of the tournament and it will see him move up to a career-high ranking of No. 6 in the world.
Ruud's performance at the French Open has been a breakthrough for the Norwegian and he will now be considered one of the favorites for every Grand Slam tournament he plays in.
