On August 11, 2024, at 7:02 p.m. PT, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket successfully launched from Vandenberg Space Force Base. It carried two communication satellites for Space Norway's Arctic Satellite Broadband Mission (ASBM).

Mission Objectives

The ASBM mission aims to provide broadband internet access to remote areas of Norway, particularly in the Arctic region. The satellites will also support scientific research and environmental monitoring in the area.

Record-Breaking Launch

This launch marked the 22nd time a Falcon 9 rocket had been used. This ties the record for the most launches of a single rocket booster.

Other Notable Features

In addition to the two communication satellites, the launch also included two U.S. military payloads.

The launch was a success, and the satellites are now in orbit. They are expected to begin providing services in early 2025.
