Korea Open Tomova Books Spot In Second Round

Korea Open: Tomova books spot in second round

Bulgarian wins against Japan's Miyazaki

Bulgaria's Viktoriya Tomova secured her place in the second round of the Korea Open on Tuesday after defeating Japan's Moyuka Miyazaki in straight sets.

Tomova, ranked 178th in the world, recorded a 6-3, 6-4 victory over the 218th-ranked Miyazaki at the Olympic Park Tennis Courts in Seoul.

After making a strong start to the match, Tomova took the first set in 43 minutes. She then broke Miyazaki's serve in the seventh game of the second set and held on to clinch the win.

Bulgarian advances to the second round

Tomova will face Russia's Anna Blinkova in the second round on Wednesday.

Blinkova, ranked 57th in the world, received a bye in the first round.

The Korea Open is a WTA 125 tournament, which means it offers a smaller prize pool and fewer ranking points than WTA Tour events.

Other results

In other first-round matches on Tuesday, Japan's Nao Hibino defeated Australia's Astra Sharma 6-2, 6-3, while Thailand's Luksika Kumkhum beat South Korea's Jang Su-jeong 6-4, 6-2.

The Korea Open continues on Wednesday with the second round matches.
