RAW AERIALS: Evacuations ordered due to fast-moving Siphon Fire

Residents flee as wildfire rages through Gaviota, scorched 2,800 acres

An immediate evacuation order has been issued for the Gaviota area due to a fast-moving wildfire that erupted Saturday afternoon, prompting residents to flee as flames scorched 2,800 acres.

The Siphon Fire broke out around 2:22 p.m. along Highway 101 near Gaviota State Park, forcing a closure of the major roadway in both directions as firefighters battled the blaze aided by aircraft.

Evacuations ordered for Gaviota area

Residents in the Gaviota area have been ordered to evacuate immediately due to the fast-moving Siphon Fire. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office has issued an evacuation order for the following areas:

  • All areas south of Highway 101 between Winchester Canyon Road and El Capitan State Beach
  • All areas north of Highway 101 between Gaviota State Park and Refugio State Beach

Residents are advised to leave the area immediately and follow evacuation routes. The Red Cross has set up an evacuation center at the First Presbyterian Church in Santa Barbara (21 E. Constance St.).
